2 US Soldiers, 18 Iraqis Killed, Scores Injured, in War Attacks, March 5-6, 2009

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- US soldiers killed Sa'adi Al-Kubaisi, the prayer caller of Al-Qaem Mosque, by firing at him in his home yard, in front of his family members.

- Iraqi gunmen attacked a US patrol east of Al-Falloujah, and rocketed a US base in Rawa, in Al-Anbar Province.

- The Haditha Hospital received bodies of four people, who were killed in Al-Ka'ara, Al-Anbar. These were a woman and her three policemen sons, who were killed by unknown gunmen.

- A Sahwa fighter was killed in Al-Sidiya area.

- A US armored vehicle was destroyed in Ba'aqouba.

- 10 Iraqis were killed, 38 were injured in a car bomb explosion south of Al-Hillah.

- 2 US soldiers killed during the first four days of March, several attacks were launched on US patrol and bases in various areas. The total official US death toll for soldiers killed in Iraq has reached 4,255. This does not included the death of injured soldiers or the death of private soldiers (security contractors).

3 civilians wounded in blast in Baladruz

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were wounded on Friday in a bomb blast in southwest of Baaquba, a police source said.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Friday (March 6) in a local birds market in Baladruz, southwest of Baaquba, injuring three civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion caused material damage to nearby stores,” he added.

Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is located 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Lorry loaded with bombs explodes north of Tikrit

SALAH EL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

A lorry loaded with bombs went off on Friday in north of Tikrit city, a source from the Salah el-din police department said.

“Acting on a tip-off, a police force found a lorry with two people inside, who are trying to enter the city at al-Qadissiya neighborhood in north of Tikrit,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The force suspected it and asked the two persons to pull over, but they blew it up immediately,” he added, noting that the explosion left no casualties.

Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, is 175 km north of Baghdad.

IED kills soldier in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An improvised explosive device blast killed an Iraqi soldier in eastern Mosul city on Thursday, according to a source in the Iraqi army’s 2nd Division information department.

“A Division soldier was killed on Thursday evening after an IED went off near his patrol in al-Jaza’er neighborhood, eastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A military vehicle was destroyed in the explosion,” the source added, not giving further information.

Meanwhile, the source noted that a Division force defused an IED planted on the main road at Badosh dam area, western Mosul.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Murderer of senior officer arrested in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces arrested a person wanted for abducting and killing a high-ranking military pilot, said a source from Wassit province’s police.

“The arrest took place in a raid operation that targeted the wanted man’s house in central Kut city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wanted man confessed that in 2006 in Sadr city, eastern Baghdad, he had kidnapped and killed General Abdullah Ubaid Hameed al-Mayiahi, a pilot, in addition to committing other crimes of killing and kidnapping of other civilians,” the source added.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

3rd Mosul car bomb blast wounds woman, policeman

A woman and a policeman were wounded in a car bomb in Mosul, the third of its kind in the city on Thursday, a police source in Ninewa said.

“A third car bomb, parked at a main street, went off on Thursday (March 5) near a police patrol in Wadi Hajar, southern Mosul, leaving a policeman and a woman wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A Ninewa security source had told Aswat al-Iraq that a car rigged with explosives driven by a suicide bomber targeted an Iraqi army checkpoint in al-Hadbaa neighborhood, northern Mosul, leaving six people, including an Iraqi soldier, wounded.

The first car bomb in Mosul on Thursday, which was parked at a main road in al-Abar neighborhood, western Mosul, went off but left no casualties.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Gunman killed, another escaped in Amara

MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq:

One wanted gunman was killed while another escaped at a police checkpoint in northern Amara city, a media source from the Missan police department said on Thursday.

“The gunmen’s car was chased by the police checkpoint at al-Btera street, (5 km) northern Amara,” Col. Sadeq Salam told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen were ordered to stop but they did not obey the checkpoint’s orders,” he added.

Amara, the capital city of Missna province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

2nd car bomb blast leaves 6 wounded in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Six people were wounded in a suicide car bombing attack on an Iraqi army checkpoint in northern Mosul, the second of its kind on Thursday, a Ninewa police source said.

“A car rigged with explosives driven by a suicide bomber targeted an Iraqi army checkpoint in the neighborhood of al-Hadbaa, northern Mosul, leaving six people, including an Iraqi soldier, wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Two women and an infant were among the wounded,” he added.

“The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” said the source, not giving further details.

Earlier on Thursday (March 5), a police source in Ninewa told Aswat al-Iraq that a car bomb went off in the western Mosul neighborhood of al-Abar but left no casualties.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Car bomb explodes in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A car bomb went off in western Mosul city without causing any casualties, said a security source from Ninewa province’s police.

“The explosion took place in al-Abbar neighborhood, western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion was not aimed at any target,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
