Please Support the Canadian Arab Federation

A Letter By Khaled Mou'amer

CAF, May 11, 2009

Greetings,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Canadian Arab Federation (CAF). CAF relies on the financial and active support of its friends and community members to achieve its mandate and to ensure that the concerns of the Arab Canadian community are voiced both federally and locally.

CAF’s mandate is to identify, articulate, defend and otherwise pursue the interests of the Arab Canadian community. CAF is committed to the inclusive and equitable integration and participation of Arab Canadians, individually and collectively, in all aspects of a democratic and multicultural Canadian society in compliance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

CAF continues to work to eliminate racism and hate in all forms at all levels and domains. We continue to mobilize our communities and meet with decision makers at all levels of government with regards to protecting the human rights of all Canadians. We continue to advocate on behalf of Arab Canadians with regards to employment, immigration and foreign policy.  We continue to engage the media and actively seek their unbiased representation of Arabs, Muslims and their issues.

There are still numerous challenges that we need to tackle as a community. The threats posed by racism, Islamophobia, violation of civil liberties, unemployment and poverty; along with the ongoing occupation of Palestine and the inhuman treatment of the Palestinian, Iraqi and Somali people. CAF is committed to speaking out against the aforementioned mentioned issues and has been criticized and attacked for doing so.

CAF has been targeted by the Right wing Harper government and recently suffered funding cuts from the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. In this unprecedented move by the Minister, CAF is in a position where funds need to be raised to support our legal action from our community members and allies. This attack by the minister is an attempt to silence our organization; specifically criticism of the state of Israel and support for the Palestinian people. Their goal of muzzling CAF will not succeed no matter what pressure is placed upon our organization. We must raise funds through generous donations from people like you.

Without your sponsorship, several initiatives will be in jeopardy. CAF can never reach its full potential without the community’s moral and financial support.

Attached are CAF Donation Forms; for a one time donation and for a monthly donation. We hope that through your donation, we can fulfill the mandate of our organization by addressing the needs of and serving the interests of Arab Canadians. If you would like to donate online please go to CAF’s website at www.caf.ca or click here.         Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Mr. Khaled Mouammar

National President

Canadian Arab Federation
