- A US military convoy was attacked with a roadside bomb in Babil.

2 killed, injured in armed attack in Touz Khormato

SALAH EL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian was killed and another was wounded on Thursday in an armed attack in central Touz Khormato district in Salah el-Din, a police source said.

“An armed group attacked a number of stores in central Touz Khormato, 100 km east of Tikrit, killing a store owner and injuring another one,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded was carried to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added.

Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

2 civilians killed, injured in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

An administrator working for the local newspaper Sawt al-Iraq (Voice of Iraq) was killed and another was injured in an armed attack in central Baghdad on Thursday, a source from the newspaper said.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire on Ihsan Zaboun Hayal and Abu Haydar, two employees in the Sawt al-Iraq newspaper, killing the first and seriously wounding the other,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He gave no more details.

Bomb explodes on U.S. vehicle patrol in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

An explosive charge went off on Thursday targeting a U.S. vehicle patrol in southern Wassit without casualties, according to a security source.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Thursday (May 14) targeting a U.S. vehicle patrol while passing near al-Janabi river in al-Hay neighborhood in southern Wassit, without causing any casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The locally-made bomb was planted by unknown armed men near al-Janabi river,” he noted.

“The Iraqi police sealed off the region, fearing the possibility of other bombs,” he added.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

Sahwa fighter killed, 3 injured in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

A Sahwa fighter was killed and three others were wounded on Thursday by unknown gunmen in the southwest of Kirkuk, a police source said.

“During the small hours on Thursday morning (May 14), unidentified gunmen opened fire on a Sahwa checkpoint in al-Zab district in southwest of Kirkuk, killing one fighter and injuring three more,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The armed men fled to an unknown place,” he added, without giving further details.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Arrests:

Police detain 2 wanted men in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces arrested two wanted men and found weapons and explosives in their possession in southern Wassit, a security source said Thursday.

“Policemen on Thursday arrested two wanted men and seized local bombs and amounts of weapons during a security raid targeting gunmen’s hideouts in al-Hay district in the south of Kut,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The forces seized five local-made bombs, guns, Kalashnikovs, amounts of ammunitions and mobiles,” he added.

“The operation was launched on a tip-off,” he also said.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, is located 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

3 wanted men arrested in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces on Thursday arrested three wanted men suspected of being involved in the attack on a police vehicle patrol in Kut, according to a security source.

“Acting on intelligence information, police forces on Thursday (May 14) managed to arrest three wanted men in al-Zahraa neighborhood in central Kut for being suspected of having involved in an attack on a police vehicle patrol, during which one officer was injured,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A police lieutenant was seriously wounded on Wednesday (May 13) when his patrol came under fire by unknown gunmen in al-Zahraa region.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
