3 US Soldiers Killed, 9 Injured, 23 Iraqis Killed, 63 Injured in War Attacks, 60 Arrested

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- 3 US soldiers were killed, 9 were injured in an attack on their patrol in Souq Al-Ashoariyin, Al-Doura, south of Baghdad. While US forces said the attack was by a roadside bomb, Iraqi police attributed it to a suicide bombing.

- 39 Iraqis were arrested by Iraqi forces in Dhi Qar Province.

- 82 Iraqis were arrested in Basrah.

15 Sahwa fighters killed, injured in suicide attack in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least eight Sahwa fighters were killed and seven others were wounded in a suicide explosion in southwestern Kirkuk, a security source said on Thursday.

“A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body on Thursday (May 21) among Sahwa fighters while receiving their salaries in southwestern Kirkuk, killing eight and injuring seven, including an army soldier,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Kirkuk is located 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Suicide attack leaves 37 casualties in southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least 12 people were killed and 25 were wounded on Thursday in a suicide bombing in southern Baghdad, the third explosion in the Iraqi capital today, a police source said.

“A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body on Thursday (May 21) targeting a U.S. foot patrol in al-Athoriyeen market in al-Doura region in southern Baghdad, killing 12 and wounding 25,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He gave no more details.

For his part, the media adviser of the U.S. army in Iraq, Salam Saeed,confirmed that a U.S. foot patrol came under bombing attack in al-Doura region. “We have no further information on the incident and are waiting for reports from our sources,” he told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

2 cops killed, 20 wounded in blast inside police station in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least two policemen were killed and 20 persons, including a number of policemen, were wounded in a bomb explosion inside a police station in western Baghdad on Thursday.

“Two policemen were killed on Thursday (May 21) and 20 others, including a number of policemen were wounded in an explosive charge planted in the al-Maamoun police station in western Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

2 brothers wounded in gunfire in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two brothers were wounded in an armed attack in central Mosul city, a medical source from Ninewa province said on Thursday.

“Unknown gunmen on Thursday noon opened fire on two brothers at the Babil-tob bus station, central Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The two injured brothers were admitted to hospital, and sent into the Operations Room (OR),” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

5 injured in roadside bomb blast in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians and two policemen were wounded on Thursday in a roadside bomb explosion in southeastern Baghdad, a police source said.

“A roadside bomb, planted on the road, exploded on Thursday (May 21) targeting a police vehicle patrol in al-Za'afaraniya region in southeastern Baghdad, injuring three civilians and two policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A series of explosions rattled the Iraqi capital today and yesterday, leaving scores killed or injured.

IED wounds 4 policemen north of Babel

Four policemen were wounded on Thursday in a bomb blast in the north of Babel province, according to a security source.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Thursday (May 21) targeting a police vehicle patrol in al-Massieb region in the north of Babel, injuring four policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Hilla, the capital of Babel, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

21 wanted men nabbed in Basra

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces on Thursday arrested 21 wanted men and seized dozens of unlicensed vehicles during security operations in Basra, the Basra police’s information office said.

“Policemen on Thursday (May 21) waged crackdown operations in separate areas of Basra, during which 21 wanted men were arrested and 30 unlicensed vehicles and 17 motorcycles were seized,” the office told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Basra is 590 km south of Baghdad.
