Bardawil: Success of dialog waiting for American green light to Abbas

[ 04/05/2009 - 11:32 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

MP Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, one of the leaders of Hamas, has said that "important" progress was made in the fourth round of national dialog talks in Cairo but success of the entire dialog was hinged on an American green light to former PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to reach a compromise agreement with Hamas.

He told Quds Press on Sunday that the progress was achieved in the issues of the PLO and elections but no tangible progress was made in the issues of the government and security apparatuses.

Hopes are still there that a breakthrough might be achieved in the next round of talks, Bardawil said, adding that if no agreement was reached to the problematic two files alternatives might be discussed.

Abbas is waiting for an American green light to meet Hamas in the midway and if he does not secure that green light then an agreement would be hard to achieve, the MP underlined.

He explained that alternatives could be a government without a political program or assigning the higher committee, grouping all Palestinian factions, to run the West Bank and Gaza Strip affairs until elections are held.
