After Rejecting Two-State Solution, Netanyahu Rejects Withdrawal from the Golan Heights

a Commentary By Hassan El-Najjar

Editor of ccun.org, May 9, 2009

First, Netanyahu announced that he would not accept the two-state solution, which is supported by UN, US, EU, and Arab governments, as a practical solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (without jeopardizing Palestinian rights).

Now, the prime minister of the Israeli occupation government announces that he would not withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. This is another defiance to all world governments who supported the Turkish-brokered Syrian-Israeli talks about returning the Golan Heights to Syria in return for Arab-Israeli peace.

Zionist speakers have already announced their support for these Netanyahu positions in their speeches before the AIPAC world annual Zionist conference.

How are the US and EU governments going to respond to the Netanyahu defiance?

Are they going to allow him throw away their efforts to find a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which is the core of the Arab and Muslim conflict with the Zionist state and its US-EU backers?

Or they are more likely to capitulate as usual for lack of spine to confront the Zionist control over NATO governments?

On the basis of their past behavior, capitulation will most likely to be the answer.

Netanyahu: We will never cede the Golan Heights

Saturday May 09, 2009 03:33 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that Israel will never withdraw from the Golan Heights as the area is considered a “strategic advantage” in case of a military conflict with Syria, Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported.

The statements of Netanyahu came in an interview with Russian-language reporters on Thursday, and his statements were published by several Israeli Russian-language websites.

Haaretz added that Netanyahu said he is now ready to stand up to the American President, Barack Obama, to tell him that Israel would not give up on “matters that affect Israel’s security”.

Netanyahu added that he would emphasize with Obama on issues regarding the peace process and the so-called Iranian nuclear threat.

He also said that he would not set preconditions for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, and that he would not accept Palestinian preconditions.

The Golan Heights are among the Arab and Palestinian territories Israel is illegally occupying, and Israel continues to defy the international law and all related Security Council and United Nations resolutions regarding a full Israeli withdrawal  from Arab and Palestinian territories it illegally captured during the June 1967 war.
