Gaza - Ma'an -

Hamas continues to hold indirect talks with the USA and the EU via Switzerland, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the de facto government Dr Ahmed Yousef said Wednesday.

Yousef explained the mediation at a meeting of Palestinian Legislative Council members in Gaza city. He said members of the de facto government contacted Swiss officials and clarified their position on elections, unity and peace talks. The Swiss officials will pas the information on to American and EU officials. Yousef said France and Sweeden has also sent envoys to meet with members of the de facto government.

During his own meeting with one of the envoys, Yousef said, he explained the obstacles in front of the government work in Gaza, as well as the achievements, particularly of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past three years.

The Hamas government, he told the Europeans, was isolated from the international community. He told the PLC members that it was time Europe knew the Hamas position, and said he thought they would cooperate on some international issues.

DAMASCUS, (PIC)--

Khaled Mesha'al, the political bureau chairman of the Hamas Movement, met on Wednesday with an American popular delegation representing the Council for the National Interest (CNI) headed by its executive director in the presence of Hamas officials.

The discussions focused on latest Palestinian developments including the siege on Gaza and its reconstruction in addition to inter-Palestinian dialog, a Hamas press release said.

It added that the discussions also tackled Arab-Israeli conflict and the Movement's stand regarding the retreat in the American administration's position toward Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank.

Mesha'al thanked the delegates for their keenness on having first hand information and elaborated on Hamas's positions regarding various issues.

He also appreciated the delegation's visit to Gaza, describing it as one of the means to break the "oppressive" siege imposed on the Palestinian people in Gaza.
