 [16/10/2009 - 10:16 AM ]

CAIRO, (PIC)--

The UNRWA chief in Gaza, Karen Abu Zayd, said that the convoy is carrying much needed aid to the people of the Gaza Strip.

In a letter to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abu Zayd said that the people of the Gaza Strip are in dire need for the aid carried by the convoy especially the medical equipment and electrical wheelchairs for disabled children.

AbuZayd called on the Egyptian authorities to allow the aid convoy which is in Egypt now to enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah boarder-crossing as soon as possible.

Spokesman for the convoy, Zaher al-Birawi, said on Thursday that a meeting with the Egyptian ministry was slated for Thursday to put the final touches on the travel plans for the convoy for Port Said to Rafah where about a hundred international activists, charity and community representatives are waiting.

The convoy comprises 110 vans carrying medical equipment and wheelchairs for the disabled.

Khudari calls for largest aid convoy for Gaza before winter

[ 15/10/2009 - 11:43 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Independent MP Jamal Al-Khudari has urged the world community represented in the human rights organizations, international solidarity activists, institutions and parliaments to launch the largest ever solidarity and aid campaign for the besieged people in Gaza to help them cope with the expected severe cold winter conditions.

Khudari said in a statement on Wednesday that the campaign should be launched with pressures on the Israeli occupation authority to open the Gaza crossings and allow entry of badly needed reconstruction material.

Ever since the last war on Gaza ended which last January not a single house of those destroyed by the Israeli invasion forces was rebuilt or even maintained because of the lack of construction and raw materials, the lawmaker underlined.

Khudari appealed to the donor countries that pledged huge sums of money to assist the people of Gaza and to materialize their promises.
