 Bethlehem - Ma’an -

Israel and the United States will carry out a 15-day air defense exercise starting Wednesday, which will likely result in some road closures, Israeli military officials announced.

The activity is reportedly the fifth such drill, which military sources said is run every two years, “in accordance with long-standing bilateral agreements, [with] the United States European Command.”

A statement from the Israeli military said the “exercises are planned in advance and are part of a routine training cycle designed to improve the interoperability of both air defense systems.”

The exercise will involve more than 2,000 American and Israeli personnel.

“Small numbers of US forces from US Army Europe (USAREUR) will be temporarily deployed to a number of locations in Israel in the vicinity of civilian areas,” the military statement noted. “Troop Movements and other activities may be observed and a number of roads may be closed for short periods of time.”
