Soldiers invaded Bil'in, attack and wound nonviolent activists

Thursday September 17, 2009 07:54 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

Israeli occupation soldiers carried a late night invasion targeting Bil’in village, near Ramallah, and broke into the house of Abdullah Abu Rahma, in an attempt to kidnap him but he was not home. Soldiers violently searched the home and forced open two doors before violently attacking and beating one resident who rushed to the house of Abdullah.

The Friends of Freedom and Justice in Bil’in reported that Palestinian and International Peace activists went to the house of Abu Rahma, and jumped over its wall into the garden. Israeli soldiers threatened to arrest a number of international activists and ordered them to leave the area.

The Israeli occupation soldiers also attacked a cameraman and demanded him to turn his camera off.

While searching the house of Abu Rahma, soldiers trashed the rooms, threw clothes out of the drawers and violently attacked Mohammad Khatib who rushed to the house of Abdullah.

Al-Khatib- was moved to a local hospital in Ramallah, and was released later on. He suffered several bruises and concussions.

The cameraman, Eyad Bornat, a local activist from Bil’in, was pushed to the ground and the soldiers broke his camera.  Troops also threatened to kidnap Hamde Abu Rahma, and other Palestinian reporters who rushed to the scene.

Troops also attacked Ashraf Abu Rahma, a local activist, by hitting him with a gun injuring his right hand.

They went on to break into the house of Khaled Abu Rahma, the brother of Abdullah, and traumatized the children who were sleeping.

The soldiers told local and international activists that they would remain in the village until they arrest Abdullah.

The Israeli occupation army also confiscated Palestinian flags and banners used during the nonviolent protests against the Annexation Wall.  They left the village approximately at 3 am.

The invasion is part of ongoing Israeli assaults against the village, and nonviolent local and international peace activists.

The presence of international peace activists exposes the ongoing Israeli violations and assaults, and the army’s use of excessive force against the villagers and nonviolent protestors.
