Two Iraqi soldiers on Saturday were injured when an explosive device went off near Khanaqin district, according to a local security source.

“On Saturday, an improvised explosive device (IED) hit an Iraqi army patrol vehicle in Imam Weiss area (30 km south of Khanaqin), wounding two soldiers,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The wounded, including one in critical condition, have been taken to the hospital,” the source added,

Khanaqin, one of the disputed areas between the central government in Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), is 155 km northeast of Ba'aquba.

US unmanned aircraft comes down on IIP HQ

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A U.S. unmanned aircraft has gone down on an Iraqi Islamic Party (IIP) headquarters in southern Mosul city, a media source said on Saturday.

“The crash, which occurred in al-Ghazlani area, southern Mosul, caused slight damage to the building,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. There has been no word on casualties, the source noted. No comment was immediately available from the U.S. side.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

IED blast targets Ninewa judge’s house

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) went off in front of the house of a judge in the First Ninewa Criminal Court in northern Mosul city on Friday, a local police source said.

“The charge went off in front of Judge Kamel Saeed’s house in al-Hai al-Ziraie neighborhood, northern Mosul, but the explosion left no casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion caused severe damage to the house door and windows, though,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

2 policemen wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two policemen were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in northern Baghdad on Friday evening, a security source said.

“The IED, planted by unidentified persons on the highway in al-Waziriya neighborhood, northern Baghdad, went off just as a police patrol was driving by, leaving two patrolmen wounded and causing severe damage to the vehicle they were boarding,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on customary condition of anonymity.

“Security forces sealed off the blast scene and rushed the two wounded policemen to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source added.

IED explodes near police vehicle patrol in central Baghdad

An improvised explosive device went off Friday afternoon targeting a police vehicle patrol in central Baghdad, a security source said. “An explosive charge went off Friday (Sept. 25) targeting a police vehicle patrol on the highway in al-Wazieriya region, central Baghdad, leaving unspecified number of casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The blast caused material damage to the police vehicle,” he added, noting that security forces sealed off the whole region.

15 army soldiers killed by car bomb in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A total of 15 Iraqi army soldiers were killed Friday in a booby-trapped car blast in Ninewa, according to a security source.

“The blast occurred when a vehicle carrying elements of the 2nd division of the Iraqi army hit a car bomb in north of Baasheqa district, north of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast killed 15 soldiers, including a captain,” he added.

“The explosion took place in a region used to defuse explosives and car bombs seized during security raids,” he said.

Eyewitnesses had said earlier that a number of Iraqi army soldiers were killed or injured in a car bomb explosion north of Mosul.

The soldiers were defusing a car rigged with explosives in northern Baasheqa district, north of Mosul, when it exploded suddenly, leaving several casualties, an eyewitness said.

“The car was among weapons and ammunitions the army found during a military operation in the district,” another witness told Aswat al-Iraq news agency by phone.

Ba'asheqa is 15 km north of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
