2 U.S. soldiers killed, 5 injured in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two U.S. soldiers were killed and five others wounded in a car accident Wednesday in Diala province, northeastern Baghdad, the U.S. army in Iraq said in a release Thursday.

“Two Multi-National Division - North Soldiers were killed and five wounded in a vehicle rollover accident in the Diala province,” said the release received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense,” it said.

The deaths brings to 4,338 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the March 2003 U.S.-led invasion, including 118 who fell in 2009.

The incident marks the first two U.S. fatalities in Iraq in September 2009.

Car bomb leaves casualties in Ba'aquba

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A car rigged with explosives went off on Thursday in central Ba'aquba, leaving a number of casualties, a police source said.

“A car bomb was detonated on Thursday (Sept.3) targeting a gathering of civilians in Ba'aquba al-Jadeeda region in central Baaquba, leaving unspecified number of casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Ba'aquba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

4 injured in Ba'aquba explosion

Four people were wounded Thursday in the car bomb explosion that ripped through central Ba'aquba, a police source said.

“A car crammed with explosives, went off, targeting civilians in Ba'aquba al-Jadeeda region in central Baaquba, injuring four people, including a police colonel,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The same source had said earlier that a car bomb exploded in central Ba'aquba, leaving unspecified number of casualties.

Ba'aquba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Gunman killed, 2 civilians injured in Ramadi

ANABR / Aswat al-Iraq:

One gunman was killed and two civilians were wounded Thursday in a bomb explosion in southern Ramadi city, according to a security source.

“The gunman was trying to plant a bomb Thursday morning (Sept. 3) on al-Eishreen street, southern Ramadi, when it went off, killing him and injuring twp passing civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, is located 110 km west of Baghdad.

Girl killed, her mother wounded in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

One girl was killed and her mother was wounded by gunmen in Mosul, a source from the Ninewa province’s police said Wednesday.

He said that police forces seized a civilian corpse in a separate incident the city. “Gunmen broke into a house today at the al-Rifaq neighborhood, northeastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The armed men used pistols with silencers to shoot the girl and her mother,” he said. In a separate incident, the same source said that a corpse of a civilian was found in western Mosul. “Signs of gunshots were found on the body,” he said. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
