Casualties from Thursday’s bombing attacks in al-Musayab district rose to eight deaths and 65 wounded after a number of injured people died at hospitals, the Babel health director said on Friday.

“The casualties of a bombing attack near the Awlad Musallam shrine in al-Musayab district, (45 km) north of al-Hilla, rose on Friday (Aug. 4) to eight deaths and 65 wounded after a number of injured people died,” Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Redha told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The condition of the rest of the wounded is stable and many of them have already been discharged from hospitals,” he added.

A series of explosions ripped through the Awlad Musallam shrine on Thursday evening. A car bomb went off outside the shrine, followed by four improvised explosive device blasts inside.

A source from the Babel police had told Aswat al-Iraq during a late hour of Thursday that the explosions left four people dead and 50 others wounded.

Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

Car bomb blast targets U.S. patrol near Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A car bomb blast targeted a U.S. patrol northwest of Mosul city on Saturday, a security source in Ninewa said.

“A car bomb went off near a U.S. forces’ patrol in the village of Tal Sameer, Rubaia'a district, northwest of Mosul, but left no civilian casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The patrol belonged to a U.S. reconstruction team,” the source added.

Aswat al-Iraq failed to contact the U.S. side for comments.

Mosul, the capital city of the volatile province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Civilian killed in IED blast near Ba'aquba

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian man was killed when an improvised explosive device went off west of Ba'aquba on Saturday, a police source in Diala said.

“The IED went off near a taxi cab off al-Rahma hospital in al-Katoun area, (2 km) west of Ba'aquba, leaving the driver killed instantly,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Three persons suspected of involvement in the explosion were arrested,” the source added.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Diala local council member’s son found dead

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: A Diala local council member said security forces on Friday found the body of his son north of Baaquba city three days after he had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.

“Iraqi security forces found the body of my son, Qutayba, dumped in al-Khalis district, (15 km) north of Baaquba, three days after he had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in al-Muqdadiya,” Nejm al-Harbi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Al-Muqdadiya district is 45 km east of Baaquba.

“My eight-year-old son showed signs of having been shot more than once,” Harbi said, not giving further details.

Baaquba, the capital city of the restive province of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Unknown body found north of Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces found on Friday an unidentified body in north of Kirkuk, a senior police officer said.

“Policemen found on Friday morning (Sept. 4) a body of a young man between Koulah and Khalobazani villages in Qura Hanjier district, north of Kirkuk,” Colonel al-Haqouqi Othman Abdullah told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The body bore signs of gunshot wounds,” he added, noting that the corpse was sent to the forensic medicine department in Azadi Kirkuk hospital.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Policeman killed, child wounded in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A policeman was killed and a child wounded in two separate incidents in the city of Mosul on Thursday, a security source in Ninewa said.

“A policeman was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near his patrol in the district of al-Nimrod, southeast Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Police forces detected the IED but it went off just as the policeman disembarked from his patrol vehicle to examine it,” the source added.

Meanwhile, the same source added, a child was wounded when a stray bullet hit him in the area of al-Zanjili, western Mosul.

Mosul, the capital city of the volatile province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
