Israeli Occupation Government to Confiscate Entire Palestinian Neighborhood of Jabal Al-Mukabbir in East Jerusalem

Latest Israeli proposal to turn Jabal Al-Mukabbir into forest lands

Jerusalem – Ma’an –

A joint Israel land department and Jewish National Fund project proposes turning the Palestinian Al-Farouq neighborhood of Jabal Al-Mukabbir into forest land as part of the ongoing project of "greening Jerusalem," head of Jerusalem department within Palestinian presidency, attorney Ahmad Rweidi announced.

According to the official, 550 thousand dunums of Palestinian lands will be annexed by the municipality and declared forest land. Rweidi said the plan was part of Israel’s general policy to annex Palestinian lands and confiscate assets in Jerusalem’s Old City and the surrounding neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah, Wadi Al-Jouz, Silwan, and Jabal Al-Mukabbir.

Ruweidi called the latest plan the "most dangerous yet," because it includes vast areas of land close to the walls of the old city. He said the plan was published in Hebrew newspapers and no residents were notified of the decision. The deadline for submitting objections against the decision was stated as 22 September in the newspaper announcement.

Rweidi said his department met with representatives of the neighborhood to analyze the legal and ownership documents they have for the area set to be annexed. A team of lawyers has already been put together to submit objections to the proposed annexation.
