Iraqi army forces on Wednesday killed two gunmen while they were trying to shoot down a traffic policeman in Mosul, according to a security source.

“On Wednesday evening, Quick Intervention Corps (QIC) forces killed two gunmen in al-Zahraa neighborhoo after they had opened fire on a traffic cop,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The forces seized two pistols, which were in the gunmen’s possession, the source noted. “The cop was taken to the hospital for treatment,” the source added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Brothers killed during security raid on their house

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two brothers on Wednesday were killed when joint U.S.-Iraqi forces raided their house in southwestern Baghdad, according to local eyewitnesses.

“During a late hour on Tuesday (Sept. 8) night, a joint U.S.-Iraqi force raided a house on al-Shabaka al-Kahrabaeya St., al-Zafaraneyya neighborhood, southwestern Baghdad, and killed two brothers and arrested a third,” an eyewitness told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The rationale behind the raid remains unknown, the eyewitness added. Another eyewitness said that the raid was conducted by Iraqi forces alone.

No comment was immediately available from security sources.

4 killed, 6 wounded in Kirkuk explosion

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four persons on Wednesday were killed and six others were injured when a booby-trap car bomb went off in Kirkuk, according to a police source.

“This afternoon, a car bomb targeted a house in al-Orouba area, killing four persons and wounding six others according to an initial count,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Two civilians injured by roadside bomb in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were wounded on Wednesday by a roadside bomb in central Baghdad, a police source said.

“A roadside bomb, planted by unknown gunmen on the road near Sahet al-Watheq in al-Karada region, central Baghdad, exploded on Wednesday (Sept. 9) injuring two passing civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security forces sealed off the region and carried the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added.

This is the second explosion in the Iraqi capital.

A police source had said earlier that one policeman and two civilians were wounded in an improvised explosive device blast in Bob al-Sham region in northeastern Baghdad.

Sticky bomb kills army officer, wounds 2 civilians in Mosul

An army officer was killed and two civilians were wounded Wednesday in a sticky bomb blast in northern Mosul, according to a security source.

“A bomb, stuck to an Iraqi army officer’s vehicle, went off on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 9) in al-Majmouaa al-Thaqafiya region, northern Mosul, killing him instantly and injuring two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Cop, 2 civilians injured in Baghdad

A policeman and two civilians were wounded Wednesday by a roadside bomb blast in northeastern Baghdad, a police source said.

“A roadside bomb, planted by unknown gunmen in Bob al-Sham region, northeastern Baghdad, went off while a police vehicle patrol was passing, injuring a policeman and two passing civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security forces sealed off the region and rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added.

IED kills, injures 3 in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian was killed and two others were wounded in a bomb explosion in south of Khanaqin on Wednesday, according to a security source.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Wednesday (Sept. 9) near a civilian car in Imam Wes region in al-Saadiya district, south of Khanaqin, killing one civilian and injuring two,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“One of the wounded persons is in critical condition,” he noted, adding that security forces arrived in the area and rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Khanaqin is 155 km northeast of Baaquba, the capital of Diala, which lies 57 km north of Baghdad.
