BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were wounded late Thursday in an improvised explosive device blast in northern Baghdad, according to a security source.

“The bomb went off near al-Assaf mosque in al-Aadhamiya region, northern Baghdad, injuring three civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did give more details.

Gunman killed, 9 wanted men arrested in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Army soldiers killed a gunman and detained nine wanted persons in different incidents in Mosul city on Thursday, according to a military source in Ninewa.

“An Iraqi army’s 2nd Division force shot dead a gunman in clashes and arrested nine wanted men in security operations carried out by the force in Mosul in accordance with Article 4 of the law on terrorism,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital city of violence-ridden multi-ethnic province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

3 killed, 8 wounded in robbery in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were killed and eight others wounded in an armed robbery on a money exchange office in southeastern Baghdad on Thursday, an Iraqi police source said.

“Unidentified gunmen waged an armed robbery attack on a money exchange office in Baghdad al-Jadida (New Baghdad), southeastern Baghdad, using guns with silencers,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen shot dead two of the office owners and a customer,” he said.

He added that the gunmen have thrown hand-grenades on pedestrians after robbing the office, wounding eight civilians who happened to be near the attack scene and then escaped to an unknown place.

Gunmen kill 3 Sahwa fighters west of Tikrit

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three Sahwa fighters were killed by gunmen in west of Tikrit, a source from the Salah al-Din police department said on Thursday. “The gunmen attacked a checkpoint late Wednesday (Aug. 4) using machineguns, killing three Sahwa fighters,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He did not give more details. Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.
