Delegations from 55 Countries Convene in Algiers to Discuss Freedom for Palestinian Prisoners Held by Israeli Occupation Government

Palestinian delegation depart for Algeria to attend conference on Palestinian prisoners

GAZA, (PIC)--

A delegation from the supreme national committee for supporting the prisoners has left the besieged Gaza Strip going to Algeria to attend a conference on the prisoners in the Israeli occupation jails where they are expected to speak about the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The conference is scheduled on the fifth and the sixth of this month, and delegations from nearly 55 countries, including 20 foreign countries, representing 100 foundations  catering for issues of the prisoners and ex-prisoners are expected to participate, the organizers of the conference said.

They added that a number of international figures, including former US Justice minister Ramsey Clark, Stanly Cohen, a Jewish lawyer who supports Palestinian rights, former Malaysian prime minister Mahather Mohammed, former Sudanese president Abdul Rahman Suwar Al-Dhahab, and George Galloway, former British MP and human rights campaigner.

The Palestinian delegation said they aim at internationalizing the issue of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, adding they would present a paper before the conference speaking on the harsh conditions of the Palestinian captives in Israeli jails, stressing that the international community must pressure the Zionist entity to respect international laws, agreements, and conventions on prisoners.

They also underscored that the International courts must chase and prosecute Israeli officials who committed crimes against the captives.

In the West Bank, the Israeli occupation authorities banned Palestinian human rights activist Fuad Al-Khafash, who is member of the committee, to leave for Algeria to attend the conference although he has his visa and plane ticket in addition to the official invitation he received from the conference organizers to speak at the conference.

The committee considered the banning of Khafsh from leaving to the conference as a continuation of the Israeli crimes against the prisoners and an exposed attempt to silence any voice speaking about their issue.
