BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

U.S. army in Iraq confirmed on Wednesday that a Hummer hit an Iraqi civilian vehicle near Hilla city.

“We have no information about the casualties in both sides,” Army Media Advisor Nadir Suleiman told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier, a media source said that five persons were killed and eight others, including women and children from the same family, were wounded when their vehicle collided with U.S. Hummer on the highway north of Hilla.

He said that the family was traveling from Baghdad to Najaf.

Five people were killed and eight others, from one family, were wounded when their vehicle collided with U.S. Hummer in north of Hilla, a media source said on Wednesday.

“Five persons were killed and eight others, including women and children from the same family, were wounded when their vehicle collided with U.S. Hummer on the highway in north of Hilla,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The family were coming from Baghdad al-Jadieda region to Najaf,” he explained.

Violence leaves 34,313 victims in 2009 - MRFC

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Violence in 2009 has left 34,313 victims throughout Iraq, Monitor of Constitutional Freedom and Bill of Rights (MRFC) said on Wednesday.

“Baghdad was the most violent province,” the MRFC said in its annual report received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

It said that aggressive acts of random shooting and raids committed by U.S. forces in Iraq continued in 2009.

The MRFC is a non-profit organization that seeks to monitor human rights violations in Iraq.

226 killed, 675 wounded in Kirkuk bombings in 2009

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: A total of 226 persons were killed and 675 others were injured in several bombings that ripped through Kirkuk throughout 2009, a local police director said on Tuesday.

“The dead included 165 civilians, 27 policemen, 20 servicemen, 14 Sahwa fighters; while the wounded included 508 civilians, 129 policemen, 13 soldiers and 25 Sahwa members,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Around 13 car bombs and 207 explosive devices detonated in the province throughout the past year, the official indicated.

“Iraqi forces killed 35 wanted men, arrested 344 others and found 31 bodies,” the official added. During security raids conducted last year, the forces seized two caches containing 560 kg of lethal radioactive chemicals, 2 tons of TNT highly explosives, 28 RPG7 shells, 130 RPG7, 791 mortars, 641 detonators, 19 hand grenades, 209 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 139 weapons, 18 motorcycles, 24 stolen cars, etc, according to the brigadier.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
