One civilian was killed on Friday when gunmen opened fire on him using a gun with silencer in central Falluja, according to a security source.

“The civilian was killed in al-Resalah neighborhood near the al-Jadied street in central Falluja,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“He belongs to the Albu Issa tribe, which is fighting al-Qaeda group,” he added.

Falluja, the largest city in the predominantly Sunni province of al-Anbar, lies 45 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

5 civilians killed, wounded in fresh attack in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were killed and two more were wounded by a roadside bomb blast in western Baghdad, a police source said Friday.

“The bomb exploded while a civilian car was passing carrying five persons near Hamid Shihab village in Abu Ghrieb region, western Baghdad, killing three and injuring two and damaging the car,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Bomb kills 2, wounds 10 in Hilla

Two civilians were killed and ten others were wounded in an explosion inside a café in north of Hilla on Friday, a police source said.

“The bomb exploded on Friday morning (July 16) inside a café in Aday region in al-Askandariya district, north of Hilla, killing two and injuring ten,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The bomb was left in a bag inside the café,” he explained.

IED injures 2 civilians in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were wounded on Friday in a bomb blast in southwestern Baghdad, a police source said.

“An improvised explosive device went off this morning near a civilian vehicle in al-Jihad neighborhood in southwestern Baghdad, injuring two civilians inside the vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion damaged the car and the nearby stores,” the source added.

Army officer injured by gunmen in Baghdad

A senior army officer was wounded by gunmen in northern Baghdad, a police source said on Friday.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire late Thursday (July 15) on Brigadier Emad el-Din Mohammad near his house in northern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The officer was wounded and was carried to al-Kadhimiya hospital for treatment,” he added.

Four civilians were wounded in a bomb explosion in central Baghdad, a police source said on Friday.

“A roadside bomb went off on the road near al-Khelani square in central Baghdad on Friday morning (July 16), injuring four civilians, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast damaged a number of stores in the region,” he added.

Gunmen shoot policeman dead, wound another in Hilla

Gunmen shot dead a policeman and wounded another when they attacked their patrol in northern al-Hilla city on Thursday, according to a local security source.

“Gunmen in an Opel vehicle opened fire on a Babel Police Department patrol that was on a mission on the speedway line, (60 km) northern Hilla, leaving one patrolman killed and another wounded and causing damage to their patrol vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen later escaped to an unknown place,” he added.

Hilla, the capital city of the province of Babel, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

Gunman blows himself up inside house in Kirkuk

A gunman blew himself up inside his house in Kirkuk after police besieged it, a police source said on Thursday.

“A police force besieged the house of a gunman in al-Hasriya village in Soliman Beik district, southern Kirkuk,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunman blew himself up before security forces stormed the house,” he added, without giving further details.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Iraq bombings kill at least 14

Separate bombings to the north and the south of Iraq's capital Baghdad have killed at least 14 people and injured 32 others.

A car bomb exploded in the northern city of Tikrit on a busy commercial street, killing six, including four policemen and wounding 14 others, police said Thursday.

"An explosion rocked the area and I found myself in the hospital. I have shrapnel in my head," wounded policeman Ashref Abbas told Reuters.

The blast also damaged about 30 shops. Police swarmed the area, firing shots in the air.

In another attack, a bomb blast in a cafe in the town of Haswa, south of Baghdad, killed six people and wounded eight, according to a source in the Interior Ministry.

Meanwhile, a bomb planted on a bicycle in a marketplace in Mahmudiya, on Baghdad's southern outskirts, killed two people and wounded 10 others.

Iraq has witnessed bombings and terrorist attacks on an almost daily basis since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003. The war toppled Iraq's notorious dictator Saddam Hussein but opened the gate for unrelenting violence.

Tikrit attack casualties up to 18

Casualties from the car bomb explosion in central Tikrit on Thursday went up to 6 dead and 12 wounded, according to a security source.

“The car bomb explosion in front of al-Enab restaurant in al-Arbayeen street, central Tikrit, killed six, including four policemen, and injured 12 civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast set a number of stores and three civilian vehicles ablaze,” he added.

Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

“A bomb, stuck to a bus, exploded on Thursday (July 15) in Sheikh Omar region, central Baghdad, killing a civilian and injuring three,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast damaged nearby vehicles,” he added.

At least four policemen were killed and 12 others were wounded in a car bomb explosion in central Tikrit on Thursday, according to a source from the Salah el-Din police department.

“A car crammed with explosives went off on Thursday (July 15) in al-Arbayeen street in central Tikrit, while a police vehicle patrol was passing, killing four policemen and injuring 12,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

8 people wounded in separate incidents in Baghdad

Eight people, including six policemen, were wounded in separate incidents in Baghdad, a police source said.

“Two policemen were injured on Wednesday (July 14) in an attack by hand grenades on a checkpoint in al-Ghazaliya neighborhood, western Baghdad, while two more policemen and a civilian were wounded in an armed attack on a police vehicle patrol near al-Darwiesh intersection in al-Bayaa neighborhood, southwestern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Two policemen were slightly wounded in a third attack by light weapons on a patrol in al-Masbah intersection in al-Karada neighborhood, central Baghdad, while an environment ministry’s employee was injured in a sticky bomb explosion in al-Yarmouk neighborhood, western Baghdad,” he continued.

Sahwa leader injured by sticky bomb in Baghdad

A Sahwa leader was wounded by a sticky bomb in southern Baghdad, a police source said Thursday. “A bomb, stuck to the vehicle of Saleh Mezher, a Sahwa leader, went off late Wednesday (July 14) in al-Rai neighborhood in southern Baghdad, injuring him and damaging the vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
