BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Twenty-six people dead and 53 injured is the most updated toll of casualties caused by the dual car bombing in the western area of the Iraqi capital, a local police source said on Sunday.

“Twenty-six were killed and 53 wounded in the synchronized car bombing that took place today near the buildings of the Iraqi Investment Bank and the Citizenship Directorate in al-Maamoon neighborhood, western Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the blasts damaged the two buildings and tens of nearby vehicles.Earlier, the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) said that 18 people were killed and 42 injured in the dual car bombing that took place at the western area of the Iraqi capital.

Dozens dead, wounded in Iraq violence

Violence in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad has claimed dozens of lives and injured scores more, the country's security officials say.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry said on Sunday that twin car bombs exploded within minutes of each other in a car park of a private bank in central Baghdad, Reuters reported.

According to Baghdad's security spokesman Major General Qassim al-Moussawi, 26 people were killed and 53 others were injured in the bombings.

Two of those dead were police officers guarding a nearby Interior Ministry office.

Meanwhile, in another bombing incident, at least four people were killed and 16 others were wounded after three roadside bombs went off in Baghdad's northern district of Hurriya, a security official told AFP.

The official further added that fire from a Katyusha multiple rocket launcher claimed the lives of three more people and wounded four in al-Obeidi.

Meanwhile, Iraqi police sources said the bodies of five women were found in central Baghdad. They are believed to have been killed two or three weeks ago.

Iraqi soldier’s corpse found in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces on Sunday found the corpse of an Iraqi army soldier in southwestern Kirkuk city.

“The corpse was found today’s dawn inside a car parked near a Sufi mosque in al-Wasiti neighborhood, southwestern Kirkuk,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not mention further details, but said that the victim was born in 1976.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

5 corpses found in house in Baghdad

Police forces last night found five unknown corpses in a house in eastern Baghdad, a police source said on Sunday.

“The corpses were found in a house in the Zayiona neighborhood, eastern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the house is right behind the passport office in the neighborhood.

“The corpses were handed over to the morgue,” the source added.

He did not mention further details.

Man killed, his wife wounded in blast in Baghdad

One man was killed and his wife wounded when a sticky bomb went off last night in western Baghdad, a police source said on Sunday.

“The bomb was attached to the victims’ car,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the blast occurred when the two victims were driving in al-Nisoor Square, western Baghdad.

Woman killed, 2 wounded in rocket attack in Baghdad

One woman was killed and two men from her family were wounded when a rocket hit their house in eastern Baghdad.

“The attack occurred last night in al-Obaidee neighborhood, eastern Baghdad,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Sunday.

He did not mention further details.

1 killed, 2 wounded in Turkish airstrikes northeast of Arbil

ARBIL / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian was killed and two others wounded in Turkish airstrikes last night on the border areas northeast of Arbil city.

“The deceased victim is a girl,” a security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Sunday.

He explained that the airstrikes targeted Iraqi-Turkish border areas, 150 km northeast of Arbil city.

The source did not mention further details.

2 killed, 14 wounded in 3 blasts in 1 neighbourhood of Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were killed and 14 people wounded when three roadside bombs went off last night in the same location in al-Hurriya neighborhood, northern Baghdad, a police source said on Sunday.

“Ten policemen are among the injuries,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He explained that the first bomb went off on the main street of al-Hurriya neighborhood. When locals gathered, the second bomb was exploded, and when policemen came to the site, the third bomb was detonated.

“The blasts damaged nearby shops,” the source noted.

Al-Hurriya is a Shiite dominated neighborhood in Baghdad.
