Israeli Occupation Government Extends Administrative Custody of Palestinian MP, Basem Al-Za'arir

AL-KHALIL, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation government (IOG) on Wednesday extended the administrative detention, without trial or charge, of Basem Al-Za'arir, a Palestinian member of parliament.

The IOG had detained Za'arir on 1/1/2009 during the Israeli war on Gaza and held him in administrative custody for six months, which was renewed twice for the same period.

Well informed sources told the PIC that the MP was preparing for his departure from jail on Thursday 1/7/2010 but the IOG extended his detention for the fourth time running for another six months on Wednesday.

The Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc denounced the IOG step, charging that it was a failed attempt to absent representatives of the people. It added that the detention would not break the deputies' resoluteness and would not achieve the IOA goals.
