Freedom Flotilla to arrive in Gaza tomorrow morning, says European campaign

[ 29/05/2010 - 11:45 AM ]

BRUSSELS, (PIC)--

The European campaign to end the siege said that the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy will start its journey from the agreed point off the coast of Cyprus on Saturday morning to arrive on the morning of the next day in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The campaign, whose ship 8000 is taking part in the convoy, pointed out that the captain of its ship received unexpectedly a letter from the Cypriot coast guard informing him that it would not allow him to transport the participants being present in Cyprus.

It added that when the captain was reading the letter, there were Cypriot aircrafts flying over the ship, expressing its surprise at this behavior especially since the Freedom Flotilla ships did not intend at all to dock at the port of Cyprus but to gather at the starting point off the coast.

The convoy ships will be carrying more than 10, 000 tons of humanitarian aid including medical supplies, building materials, 100 prefabricated homes and 500 electric wheelchairs for the handicapped.

In a related context, Dr. Abdelqader Al-Arbeed, the director of military medical services in Gaza, stated Saturday that all medical and security preparations were fully made to receive the Freedom Flotilla convoy.

Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya, for his part, visited later this morning Gaza port and checked all preparations made to receive the convoy.

For her part, Arab Knesset member Hanin Al-Zoghbi said she would be happy if she was able to contribute to breaking the siege on Gaza while she was sitting on her chair in the Knesset, but she had to participate in the Freedom Flotilla convoy because of the racist policies pursued against Arabs in the Knesset.

Her remarks were made in response to the campaign of incitement which started against her inside the Knesset during the session held last Monday that examined the possibility of depriving the Arab members who met with Libyan president Muammar Al-Gaddafi of their diplomatic rights.

In a related development, Quds Press reported Friday that the European campaign to end the siege launched a series of international events in solidarity with the Freedom Flotilla convoy sailing for Gaza.

It said that the first of these events started in Greece, where the campaign organized a protest outside Israel’s embassy in Athens to condemn its threats against the convoy.
