Gunmen kill woman in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Unknown gunmen on Saturday killed a woman in western Mosul city. “The woman was in her forties,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the gunman were able to escape. “The victim’s dead body was admitted to the morgue,” the source explained. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

4 bodies found south of Samarra

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

Policemen found four unidentified bodies in the area of al-Jazira, south of Samarra city, on Saturday, a local police source in Salah al-Din said.

“A force from the 7th Emergency Contingent found on Saturday four unidentified bodies buried inside a well near al-Jazira area, (10 km) south of Samarra,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Initial examinations showed that the decomposed bodies are of people who had been shot dead one and half years ago. Their condition was too bad to identify,” he added, noting the bodies were removed to a hospital in Samarra.

Samarra, a city in Salah al-Din province, lies 120 km north of Baghdad.

4 policemen wounded in Adhim blast

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four policemen were wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in al-Adhim area, north of Baaquba city, on Saturday, a local security source in Diala said.

“Four policemen were injured when an IED went off near their patrol in al-Adhim, al-Khalis district, (55 km) north of Baaquba,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source added. He did not give further details.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

2 civilians wounded by stun bomb in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were wounded by a stun bomb near the provincial administration building in central Mosul city on Saturday, a local police source in Ninewa said.

“The bomb apparently targeted a police patrol belonging to Iraq’s Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) company on al-Jumhuriya street, central Mosul, but left two civilians slightly wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The device was planted on the main road leading to the provincial building, about 200 meters away from the main gate,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Civilian killed in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian man was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to his vehicle went off in northern Baghdad on Saturday, a local police source said.

“The charge ripped through a civilian vehicle in Aden Square, al-Kadhemiya area, northern Baghdad, leaving the driver killed and causing severe damage to his vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not give further details about the incident.

Gunmen shoot dead guard north of Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A man from the facility protection service department was shot down by unidentified gunmen north of Mosul city on Friday, an Iraqi police source said.

“A guard who was on a leave was killed by gunmen fire while heading home in the district of Wana, (30 km) north of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen intercepted the guard and opened fire on him before he could reach his home and escaped in a vehicle in a vehicle they were boarding to an unknown place,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of the volatile province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Sahwa fighter killed, 5 wounded in blast near Ba'aquba

A sahwa (awakening) tribal fighter was killed and five others, including three sahwa men, wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack west of Ba'aquba city on Friday, a local police source in Diala said.

“An IED went off near a vehicle driven by a sahwa leader in a-Katoun neighborhood, (3 km) west of Ba'aquba, leaving him killed and five others wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The source did not give further details.

Ba'aquba, the capital city of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Earlier on Friday, a source from Kirkuk’s Joint Coordination Center (JCC) said three sahwa fighters were killed and four others wounded by gunmen southwest of the city.

3 Sahwa fighters killed, 4 wounded by gunmen fire near Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three sahwa (awakening) tribal fighters were killed and four others wounded by gunmen southwest of Kirkuk on Friday, said a source from the city’s Joint Coordination Center (JCC).

“A sahwa checkpoint in al-Rashad district, near the village of Sami al-Aasi, (35 km) southwest of Kirkuk, came under fire today (May 7) by unidentified gunmen. The attack left three sahwa fighters killed and four others wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not give further details about the incident.

Meanwhile, the same source said a force from the Iraqi army’s 3rd contingent, 46th Brigade, 12th Division, acting upon intelligence tip-offs, launched earlier on Friday a search raid in the village of al-Mansouriya, al-Huweija district, (65 km) southwest of Kirkuk, capturing four suspects.

He did not reveal the reasons behind the arrests and whether they had anything to do with the attack on the checkpoint.

The oil-rich Kirkuk, a city of mixed Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Gunman killed in eastern Ramadi

A gunman was killed on Friday in a bomb blast in eastern Ramadi, a police source said. “The gunman was trying to plant the bomb in the industrial region, eastern Ramadi, when it exploded suddenly, killing him on the pot,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Security forces sealed off the region, and started to search the area,” he added. Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, is 110 km west of Anbar.

IED kills civilian, injures 4 in Baghdad

One civilian was killed and four others were wounded in an improvised explosive device blast in western Baghdad, a police source said.

“The bomb exploded this afternoon in al-Shuhadaa neighborhood in Abu Gharieb region, western Baghdad, while a vehicle carrying workers was passing, killing one worker and injuring four,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast damaged a number of nearby vehicles,” he added.

Police find 6 bodies in Wassit

Police forces found on Friday six bodies of one family in northern Wassit, according to a security source. “Acting on a tip-off, policemen raided on Friday morning (May 7) a house in al-Suweira district, north of Kut, where they found a man, his wife and four children dead,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He did not give further details. Kut, the capital of Wassit, is 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

Car bomb injures 5 people in Salahuddin

Five civilians were wounded in a car bomb explosion in northern Tikrit on Friday morning, a police source said.

“A car rigged with explosives went off Friday morning (May 7) near the house of Commander of the Quick Response Department (QRD), Major Muhanad al-Douri, in al-Qadissiya neighborhood in northern Tikrit, injuring five civilians, including two women, and damaging the house,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The officer and his family were not in the house when the car bomb exploded,” he explained.

Tikrit, the capital of Salahuddin, is 175 km north of Baghdad.

IED blast leaves 1 killed, 3 wounded

A civilian man was killed and three others wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in southern Baghdad on Thursday, a local police source said.

“The IED went off at the entrance of the southern Baghdad district of al-Mahmoudiya, leaving one killed and three others wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The bombing attack has left damage to a number of nearby stores,” he added.

Kidnapped student found dead in Mosul

A student who had been reported kidnapped in Arbil has been found dead in Mosul, his brother said on Thursday. “Police forces found on Wednesday night (May 5) my brother’s body in al-Baath neighborhood in Mosul,” Zerdesht Othman told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The body shows signs of gunshot wounds,” he noted. “We still do not know the reason behind the killing of my brother,” he added.

IED injures 3 civilians in western Anbar

Three civilians were wounded on Thursday in an improvised explosive device blast in western Anbar, according to a police source. “The bomb went off near a water tanker truck in al-Qaem district in western Anbar, wounding three civilians, including the driver,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He did not give further details. Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.
