Israeli Occupation Apartheid Regime Forces Continue Attacks on Blockaded Gaza, Abduction of Palestinians in the West Bank

August 28, 2020

Editor's Note:

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of David, Solomon, and Solomon's son).

 After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

The following news stories are just examples of the Israeli occupation government violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Israel Strikes on Gaza Over Rockets, Fire Balloons

By Reuters,

US News, Aug. 28, 2020, at 2:57 a.m. More

TEL AVIV/GAZA (REUTERS) -

Israeli aircraft and tanks struck (Palestinian) facilities in Gaza on Friday and (Palestinian forces) fired half a dozen rockets towards southern Israel, its military said, as mediators struggled to work for calm along the volatile frontier.

There were no reports of casualties on either side. The United Nations' Middle East envoy urged Israel and Gaza to halt the violence.

Israel's military said it struck underground infrastructure and a military post belonging to Gaza overnight in response to incendiary balloons launched from the Palestinian enclave that have burned Israeli farmland.

Gaza (forces) then fired six rockets towards Israel, the military said, drawing a second round of Israeli strikes which hit a (Palestinian) armed training camp.

An Israeli military spokesman said he did not have any information on where the Gaza rockets landed, but that none of them were intercepted by its Iron Dome system.

Hamas has been trying to pressure Israel to ease its blockade of Gaza and allow more investment, in part by letting Palestinians launch dozens of helium balloons carrying incendiary material towards southern Israel in recent weeks.

With tension high, Israel has closed its only commercial crossing with Gaza, banned sea access and halted fuel imports into the Mediterranean coastal strip, leading to its only power plant shutting down last week.

Mediators from the United Nations, Egypt and Qatar have been working to restore calm. Qatari envoy Mohammad Al-Emadi has been in Gaza since Tuesday holding talks with Hamas leaders.

Israel has struck (Palestinian) facilities almost nightly for the past two weeks, saying it would not tolerate the balloons.

Health officials have voiced concern that the power plant shutdown could aggravate a novel coronavirus outbreak in impoverished Gaza, which is home to 2 million Palestinians.

ICRC: Gazans Face ‘Double Crisis’, Need International Support

 IMEMC, AUG 27, 2020

The 2 million Palestinians in Gaza face a “double crisis” as they struggle with an acute electricity shortage just as the coronavirus has spread into the community among the vulnerable population, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

“The population of Gaza is under terrible strain,” said Ignacio Casares Garcia, head of the ICRC’s Gaza Sub-delegation. “People are stressed: not only are they coping with just four hours of electricity a day; their worries over the virus have been hugely compounded and they are now under lockdown.”

“We want to reaffirm our commitment to doing all we can to support the Gaza population as they face the virus,” said Casares Garcia. “They can’t do this alone. They need all the international assistance they can get to make sure they are equipped to deal with the crisis.”

The Israeli occupation apartheid regime has launched a number of offensives in several areas of the densely populated Strip in acts of retaliation. As a means of collective punishment, the occupation has tightened the 13 year old siege on the Palestinian population in Gaza, closed the fishing zone, and blocked the necessary fuel for sustained electricity production.

Israeli Occupation Regime Navy Attacks Fishermen, Army Opens Fire at Shepherds

 IMEMC, AUG 24, 2020

The Israeli occupation regime navy, on Sunday, attacked Palestinian fishermen and their boats as they sailed within one nautical mile off the Gaza shore, the Palestinian Information Center reported.

Local Coordinator of the fishermen’s union, Zakariya Bakr said the Israeli total closure of the Gaza sea, which has continued for the seventh consecutive day, deprives Gaza fishermen of their daily sustenance and increases their families’ suffering.

Even prior to the recent escalations in Gaza, the Israeli navy was attacking and harassing fishermen on a daily basis, for no specific reason.

The 1993 Oslo accords allowed fishing up to 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, but the Israeli authorities have reduced the fishing zone to between three and six nautical miles.

The Israeli occupation regime army, on Saturday morning, opened machine-gun fire towards cultivated land and shepherds in the besieged Gaza Strip, PIC further reported.

According to local media sources, Israeli soldiers opened fire at a group of shepherds in the east of al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, which forced them to leave their work.

Farmlands to the east of al-Qarara town, east of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, also came under similar gunfire attack by soldiers.

No casualties were reported.

PCHR: Israeli Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

 IMEMC, AUG 28, 2020

Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR)

Summary for August 19 – 26, 2020

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued to commit crimes and multi-faceted violations against Palestinian civilians and their properties, including raids into Palestinian cities that are characterized with excessive use of force, assault, abuse and attacks on civilians. This week, IOF escalated its attacks on the Gaza Strip with multiple airstrikes; an airstrike resulted in one child being injured inside his home. Additionally, IOF maintained the tightened closure restrictions on the Gaza Strip, in continuation of the collective punishment policy, and inhumane and illegal retaliatory actions adopted by Israel against the Gaza Strip civilian population since 2007.

Amidst the IOF escalation, the first coronavirus cases were documented in the Gaza Strip outside quarantine centers. The Gaza authorities imposed a 48-hour curfew starting on Monday evening, 24 August 2020, and renewed it for an additional 72 hours. The curfew entailed suspension of public and private facilities, including educational institutions, mosques, markets, wedding halls and clubs, in order to contain the spread of the virus, identify possible infection areas and address persons who have had contact with those infected. PCHR warns of the catastrophic implications of coronavirus spread in the Gaza Strip, especially with its already-exhausted health care system due to 14 years of illegal and inhumane closure and collective punishment policies imposed by IOF on the Gaza Strip. PCHR fears for the lives of Palestinian civilians as IOF attacks and collective punishment measures continue and warns of their repercussions on the collective economic and social rights of Palestinians.

Additionally, IOF continued its attacks in the West Bank, including excessive use of force, demolition of houses and facilities and settlement expansion.

This week, PCHR documented 209 violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law (IHL) by IOF and settlers in the oPt. It should be noted that the limitations due to the corona virus pandemic, including closure of certain territories, has limited PCHR’s fieldworkers mobility and ability to conduct field documentation; therefore, the information documented in this report are only part of the continued IOF violations.

IOF shooting and violation of right to bodily integrity: IOF killed a child and wounded 16 other civilians, including 2 children in IOF excessive use of force in the West Bank: child killed and 2 other children wounded on 19 August 2020, after IOF shot them for throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails on them north-western of Ramallah. Another 7 injuries documented in IOF suppression of protests in Turmus Ayya; 1 injured in al-Jalazoun refugee camp in Ramallah; and 2 other in Kufur Qaddoum, one of them was injured by an explosive device planted by IOF; 2 others were injured in Jenin and 2 in Tulkarem.

In the Gaza Strip, a child sustained moderate injuries in an Israeli airstrike while at home; and an arterially shell fell on a house in eastern Khan Younis, wrecking one of its walls without exploding. Additionally, IOF opened fire 5 times at fishing boats in western Gaza Strip and 8 times at agricultural lands in the east.

IOF incursions and arrests of Palestinian civilians: IOF carried out 111 incursions into the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem. Those incursions included raids of civilian houses and shootings, enticing fear among civilians, and attacking many of them. During this week’s incursions, 103 Palestinians were arrested, including 5 children and a woman who is the Head of the Female Guards Division at Al-Aqsa Mosque. The arrestees included two Hamas-affiliated members of the dissolved Palestinian Legislative Council. IOF also conducted two limited incursions into eastern Khan Younis and northern Gaza Strip.

Settlement expansion activities and settlers’ attacks: IOF continued its settlement expansion operations in the West Bank, PCHR documented 10 violations, including:

Tubas: tin-plated barracks razed, it was used as a sheep barn and included a water tank and animal feed;

Sebastia, Nablus: flag post removal notice;

East Jerusalem: demolition notices served to two residential buildings in Wadi al-Humus neighborhood, and 4 houses demolished (3 self-demolished);

Bethlehem: demolition notice to two houses and a street razed;

Ramallah: 2 tin-plated and metal barracks razed; one is used as a resident and the other as a sheep barn; 2 residential tents dismantled, and 6 barracks used as barns;

Jericho: 2 barracks used as barns razed.

PCHR also documented at least 350 olive tree seedlings uprooted (5-year-old) and shepherds assaulted and expelled in eastern Yatta, Hebron.

Israeli closure policy and restrictions on freedom of movement: IOF maintained tightened closure restrictions and its collective punishment policy on the Gaza Strip, reinforced since Monday, 10 August 2020, as Israeli authorities announced the closure of Karm Abu Salem crossing and banned the entry of fuel and construction materials, and closed the sea, allegedly in response to the launch of incendiary balloons towards Israeli communities adjacent to the Gaza Strip. On Wednesday evening, 12 August 2020, IOF announced reducing the Gaza Strip’s fishing area from 15 to 8 nautical miles. Due to the suspension of fuel entry, the Gaza Power Plant announced its shutdown starting from Tuesday morning, 18 August 2020, as the Gaza population now receives 4 hours of power vis a vis 16 hours of outage per day; the negative implications of which started to affect the health and sanitation services, as well as commercial, industrial and agricultural facilities.

This decision falls under the framework of the complete, illegal and inhumane closure policy imposed by the Israeli authorities on the Gaza Strip since June 2007, as the Gaza Strip crossings have witnessed tightened restrictions on the movement of goods and persons.

Meanwhile, IOF continued to divide the West Bank into separate cantons with key roads blocked by the Israeli occupation since the Second Intifada and with temporary and permanent checkpoints, where civilian movement is restricted, and they are subject to arrest.
