Speaker:
Dr. Shadia Touqan
2004 Winner of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture Dr. Shadia Touqan the director of the Welfare Association’s Old City of Jerusalem Revitalization Plan. She is also a recognized authority on the preservation of cultural heritage. She has worked as an architect on numerous projects in the UK, Jordan, UAE and other Arab countries. She also worked as the chief technical advisor for UNESCO in Yemen, and was their expert for the rehabilitation plan of Bethlehem 2000. Dr. Touqan has helped advise numerous urban development projects in the Middle East in general, and in Palestinian towns in particular. A Palestinian of West Bank origin, she obtained her BSc in Architecture from Cairo University, her MA in Urban Design from Manchester University and her PhD in Urban Development and Planning from the University of London.
