Seven Jewish Children is a controversial six-page, 10-minute play by British playwright Caryl Churchill, written in response to the 2008-2009 Israeli invasion of Gaza, and first performed at London’s Royal Court Theatre in February 2009. Churchill, a patron of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, permits anyone to produce the play gratis, so long as they take a collection for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

MCB Responds to Shocking News That Replica Mosques are Being Used as Army Firing Targets
 
 
The Muslim Council of Britain was shocked and saddened to learn of replica mosques being used as Army firing targets in Catterick. Allowing the places of worship to be used in this manner sends out all the wrong signals on so many levels. The MCB raised the issue with the Ministry of Defence in the past and is now raising once again to seek clarification.
 
Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said Over many months mosques in this country have been at the forefront of anti-Muslim hate campaigns, vandalism and even arson attacks. This totally unacceptable and worrying practice of using replica mosques as firing targets plays into the very hands of those on the far-right who take aim at mosques.
 
The Army must go beyond simply apologising and acknowledging that this insensitive practice must now stop. They have worked hard to highlight the contribution of Muslims in our armed forces. We hope swift action is taken to safeguard this good work and ensure cohesion.

US Attorney General Eric Holder to Keynote Civil Rights Luncheon at


ADC's 30th Anniversary National Convention

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is very pleased to announce that the Attorney General of the United States, the Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., will deliver the keynote remarks at the Annual Civil Rights Luncheon during ADC's 30th Anniversary National Convention. The Luncheon will take place on Friday June 4, 2010, from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC 20008.

Diana Buttu and Ali Abunimah will be participating in the upcoming Eighth Annual Al-Awda International Convention which will take place the weekend of April 30 - May 2nd, 2010 at the Embassy Suites Hotel Anaheim South. They are among an outstanding list of speakers for this years convention.
Buttu is a Palestinian human rights lawyer and former legal advisor to the Palestinian negotiation team. She has appeared on numerous news and analysis programs speaking on Palestinian legal rights. Recently when asked on Al Jazeera about "institution building" her response was "In the history of mankind I have never heard of the liberation of a people through the construction of office space".
 
Diana Buttu will be the keynote speaker for the Saturday Luncheon [$55 standard, $40 student; Members- $45 standard, $35 student]. She will be speaking on "Palestinian refugee rights, the Palestinian political process, and the so-called negotiations".

Ali Abunimah is a Palestinian author and co-founder of the Electronic Intifada. He is a frequent speaker and commentator on the Middle East, contributing regularly to the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times among other publications. His recent book is titled One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
 
Abunimah will be speaking during a free* Saturday session discussing "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions -- How they fit in a strategy for freedom, equality and return". This session will be followed by a Divestment and Boycott Panel with Students and Faculty.
