Since There's A Global Consensus On Israeli Illegal Settlements:

What's going on?

By Ali Al-Hail

Al-Jazeera, CCUN, January 3, 2011

Almost entirely, without a single exception, there's a global consensus on the illegality of building settlements by 'Israel' in occupied West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Similarly, there's an anonymous rejection, amongst all countries of the World to 'Israel'  (including 'Israel' staunching allies-the U.S.A. and the E.U. states) continual illegal new construction, in Occupied Palestinian lands.

However, this very same World, has been turning a blind eye and a dough ear, to' Israel' grabbing of Palestinian lands since 1967, on which 'Israel' has consistently, persisted on keeping building illegal settlements. Now, 'Israel' has a population of more than a half a million illegal settlers, in more than one hundred illegal settlements.

Having stated that, as early, as over than four decades, the International law, and the U.N. have been considering both the West Bank and East Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian lands by 'Israel'. And since then 'Israel' has been disputing this global consensus.

Out of despair, since the U.S.A. lifted its hand off the matter, the Palestinians declared their state amongst 'Israel' land-grabbed settlements in both West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Latin American states, have recognized it (albeit, criticized by the U.S.). Other states adamantly, will follow.

The U.S.A. and the E.U. states, won't obviously, recognize the Palestinian state. For, they believe that, such a recognition should be achieved via peace process negotiations. 'Israel' has brought down the negotiations to a stalemate.

Because, 'Israel' resented the U.S. administration condition for viable peace negotiations i.e. stopping building more land-grabbed settlements. As usual, the U.S.A. and the E.U. states, with varying degrees, have been defeating their own argument.

The Bewildered Palestinians, consider going to the Security Council. It aims at seeking a global recognition for  the Palestinian state. But, the U.S. is expected to abort the resolution, and most E.U. states could follow suit.

The Palestinians argue that, since there's a global consensus on the illegality of settlements construction, they hope to obtain the World's recognition. One should ask: since, there's a global consensus, on the issue, why the world has not yet done anything?

The answer is obvious. 'Israel' doesn't merely, seem  to influence the U.S. foreign policy, as Walt's and Mearshiemer's book found out, nor, does 'Israel' seem to be directly, involved in making U.S. foreign policy, as we mentioned in our last article, 'Israel' now, seems to rule the World.
